Ireland West Airport Knock

County Mayo, Ireland

Development Fee

As part of the continuing effort to improve the services and infrastructure at Ireland West Airport Knock, all departing passengers aged 12 years and older are charged a 10 euro development fee.

The Fee goes towards providing passenger and airline services, as well as ongoing maintenance and operation of the Airport. Terminal facilites, car park maintenance, safety and security and airline services such as navigational aids, runway systems, aircraft parking and fire services are examples of the many aspects at the Airport that require constant attention and development.

The income received by the airport is not enough to cover the huge ongoing investment needed to provide services that meet airline and international regulatory standards. This investment is largely funded through Development Fee income. Passengers arriving at the airport do not pay e fee and can avail of cheap car hire with Budget Car Rental at Knock Airport.

Government Grant Aid provides for roughly 50% of what is required to maintain and develop the airport, and the rest coming from its own resources, including the Development Fee.

Many infrastructural projects such as an Instrumentation Landing System on Runway 27, perimeter fencing and inspection road construction, terminal building expansion, runway safety area enchancements and system upgrades have all been completed with the help of Development Fee income.

Further projects such as apron extension to facilitate more aircraft stands and runway enchancements are being undertaken, again with the help of Development Fee income.
